  • Research summary

This is a prospective observational study at a single centre – Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.\n\nCOVID-19 is a current global health priority and this study aims to examine samples from people with and without COVID-19. These will be used to identify any infections cause by bacteria which may also be present, biomarkers which may show which patients are likely to have a worsening of their disease and where there may be antibiotic resistance.\n\nTh results of the could help scientists and medical staff better assess and treat patients with COVID-19.\n\nPatients with suspected COVID-19 will be eligible on admission to hospital. We will take initial samples from them. If COVID infection is confirmed, those patients will have additional samples taken while in hospital up to 29 days. We will attempt to take these at the same time as other clinical samples. \nFor those who are Covid-ve no further samples will be required but their initial samples will be used as a comparison group from people who have other infection.\n\nWe will also have a control group, who have no current infection to provide a comparison. These patients will provide one blood sample only.\n
