Research summary
This study aims to develop a method to identify individuals at risk of Parkinson's in order to bring forward the time of diagnosis. At this time treatment may be more effective because there is less damage to the brain. We aim to identify people at risk of Parkinson’s, biological markers for the disease and ways to measure disease progression at this early disease stage. These are all needed to plan future drug studies.
The study runs online and we estimate risk using a calculator. The calculator is based on lots of previous research. In order to improve and validate this calculator, to identify biomarkers and tools to measure progression, we need to test it in real life, examining and following people over several years. The aim of this study is to provide tools as well as data to help us plan and design future drug trials to delay onset and slow progression of Parkinsons symptoms.REC name
