Research summary
Paitents who undergo colorectal surgery are often subject to reduced nutritional intake, reduced exercise secondary to other factors such as fatigue and anxiety, and are often older patients who may have a pre-existing element of deconditioning. There is little in the way of standardised advice given as to what exercise patients can do, especially in the preoperative period.
Our study aims to use accelerometers to quantify the type, amount and variation in physical activity patients do in the immediate postoperative in-hospital period.
