Research summary
Severe postnatal mental illness is described as responding well to electro-convulsive therapy (ECT). However, there are few studies in the literature which specifically address this issue. We aim to compare the effectiveness of ECT in a population of women admitted to specialised inpatient mother and baby psychiatric care over a period of 9 years, with a population of women, matched for age, who have also received inpatient ECT.
