  • Research summary

The aim of the research is to produce a user focused and effective information pack for carers of people with dementia which will be provided at the time of diagnosis of dementia. The content and design of the pack will be developed through interviews with carers who will be contacted via dementia carers’ courses in West Berkshire, run by Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust, and through Alzheimer’s Cafes in West Berkshire. Initial interviews will also include the option for carers to self-rate their quality of life and their understanding of and confidence in their ability to care for a person with dementia. Implementation of the pack will be followed by repeat measures of carer rating of quality of lie, understanding of dementia and confidence. Input from carers will be supplemented by interviews with professionals involved in dementia care in Berkshire – doctors, nurses, psychologists, support workers, allied health professionals.
