Research summary
The aim of this MSc project is to identify haematology patients with thrombocytopenia and apply the TEG procedure to demonstrate if low levels of patient platelets are effective without transfusion. I shall require the participants to give consent to the additional test as part of this study but no additional specimens will be required from the participant and the routine specimens taken at clinic will be fully utilized for this study the details of the test procedure will be explained to all participants to help better understand the condition and treatment. Upon required consent and successful results from this study platelet transfusions could potentially be minimised providing to be cost effective for the trust and also minimise the risk of donor exposure to the patient providing a better quality of life without having to attend regular appointments for the transfusion of platelets. All results attained will be discussed with all participants and any further questions from the participants will be answered promptly and efficiently to help the participant understand the results gained.
