  • Research summary

This study is looking at how Covid-19 affects pregnant women and their babies. Pregnant women do not appear to be at any more risk of contracting Covid-19 than non-pregnant people. However, if a woman does develop Covid-19, we do not have enough information to understand how the virus might affect her pregnancy or her baby. We also do not know if babies are more likely to be affected by Covid-19 if the mother shows symptoms. \nWe do not know if the Covid-19 lockdown measures, issued by the government to help delay the spread of the virus, are making women feel more anxious than they would do normally. \nIn order to understand how pregnancy and psychological well-being are affected by Covid-19 we would like to collect data relating to pregnancy, birth and the baby on women who are symptomatic and asymptomatic but test positive for Covid-19.\nFurther understanding of the incidence of COVID-19-related coagulopathy (a condition in which the blood’s ability to coagulate (form clots) is impaired) on maternal and fetal outcomes would likewise be of value to help guide treatment recommendations.\nThis study will analyse blood samples and a throat and nose swab from participants.\n\nWe would also like women to complete the GAD-7 questionnaire to investigate if anxiety and depression are more common during the Covid-19 measures. This would help us to understand how maternity services can help support women better during a global pandemic. \n
