Research summary
There is currently no clear evidence for the success of 3-in-1 surgery to correct recurrent knee instability in terms of accurate measurements of patients' movement. 3-dimensional motion capture technology can measure movement to a very high degree of accuracy and repeatability, and as such has potential to be used to measure operative outcomes. However, we do not yet know if it can be applied in the context of recurrent knee instability to identify post-operative improvements. Our study aims to investigate patients’ tolerability of motion capture during recovery, as well as its ability to accurately assess knee function.
We hope to detect measurable changes in knee function after the 3-in-1 surgery with accuracy and reliability. Ultimately, we hope that this will allow us to run a sufficiently powered trial to definitely provide evidence for or against the procedure, and influence future clinical practice to the benefit of patients.REC name
