Research summary
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune condition that causes demyelination and damage to nerve cells in the central nervous system. Some previous studies have have suggested that a certain type of immune cell, memory B cells, may play an important role in this damage. Our cross-sectional study will examine the quantity of memory B cells in the venous blood of patients with MS, who are returning for routine clinical monitoring after treatment with either alemtuzumab or cladribine. This will be compared to MS patients who have yet to begin drug therapy and to healthy controls.
