Research summary
Shift workers have been identified as a group at high risk for various diseases, such as obesity, cardiovascular
disease, diabetes mellitus and sleep disorders. There is very limited amount of literature on health promotion
interventions in shift workers. Preventing hypertension is a public health priority and developing programs to achieve
healthier lifestyles can help attain the goal. To address the need for health promotion in shift workers, we are working
together with industrial and business partners as part of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology Labs
funded activities. As part of that activity, we would like to conduct focus group discussions (FGD) to understand, explore
and evaluate the ideas, perceptions, beliefs and attitudes of shift workers in the health care services. In addition, we
would also like to explore health promotion services and the use of technology to attain a healthy lifestyle. The second
part of this FGD involves evaluating a health promotion service that consists of two components: (1) a cardiovascular monitoring solution (“smart watch”) and (2) a health promotion and coaching services on the mobile app. This is in collaboration with Philips and Lewel Group so they can tailor the service to the needs of the shift workers in the
healthcare service. The participants will not be wearing the "smart watch".REC name
