Research summary
Robotic surgery is being increasingly used in the UK however there is a lack of knowledge and understanding of it's role and the potential risks/benefits amongst the general public. This study aims to explore the perceptions and views of robotic surgery in women who have already undergone a robotic gynaecological procedure. In particular it will be focusing upon women's knowledge of robotics prior to their surgery, what information they wanted or felt they needed prior to their surgery, and to compare this with their knowledge of open and standard keyhole surgery. Their experiences of the surgery and their views on the availability of such specialist surgery through the NHS will also be explored. The results will be used to ensure that women who undergo robotic surgery in the future have the information they feel they need prior to the surgery as well as to inform the NHS commissioners of patients' experiences and views on robotic surgery.
