  • Research summary

    Background:

The natural history of prolapse profusion of organs in vagina) is poorly understood. There is some evidence that the size of vaginal introitus (vaginal entrance) and damage to the pelvic floor during childbirth has an impact on the development of prolapse.

    Objectives:

To investigate the impact of the size of the vaginal introitus in women with prolapse.

    Design: Cross sectional study

Population: Women seen in urogynaecology clinics, general gynaecology clinics, pelvic floor clinics, labour ward and women who come for urodynamics will be recruited over a period of Jan 2016- May 2017.

    Data collection:
Demographics, Pelvic Organ Prolapse- Quantification scores, size of urogenital hiatus, distance between skin at the perineum and muscle (SM) at the lower portion of vagina, and distance between hymenal remnants (HH)- (hymenal membrane that covers the vagina)

    Methods:
Data will be collected from trust online database Cerner, patient notes and by performing vaginal examination on the women. All data will be anonymised.
