Research summary
Long COVID is a new and poorly understood condition and the number of people with Long-COVID symptoms is set to increase rapidly. There is a need to understand the experience people who have been diagnosed with Long-COVID following hospitalization. Important areas in which knowledge is lacking include how symptoms develop and what impact this has on a patients’ recovery following their discharge from hospital. We also need to better understand people’s experience of support in the community and any unmet physical, psychological and emotional needs they may have. Lastly, we wish to understand how people think about their future immunity to COVID-19 and the acceptability of vaccination.
In this study we wish to talk with people who participated in the DISCOVER trial and who were hospitalised for treatment for COVID19, to understand their experiences of Long-COVID. We wish to conduct research interviews with up to 30 patients who have Long-COVID symptoms, to better understand their experience and impact of long-COVID on their quality of life and their physical, social and emotional wellbeing, their views on vaccination for COVID19 and their views on research during the COVID pandemic. The findings of this study can be used to inform health services development in the management of COVID-19 and potentially in future pandemics.
