  • Research summary

This will be a pilot study to investigate how time spent walking correlates to wound healing. I will recruit 20 patients with diabetes and uninfected non-ischaemic foot ulcers. They will be asked to use a pedometer daily for 4 weeks recording steps in a diary. Patients will be seen weekly to record the pedometer memory and check ulcer healing. The results will establish the feasibility and acceptability of using an absolute step count or step variability index to predict wound healing. Healing will be assessed by measuring change in size. of the ulcers. The results will aim to provide an evidence base to support patient treatment plans and/or a fully powered study.
