Research summary
Background: Many patients attend A&E each year with injuries to their chest. Most of these patients are discharged directly home without needing admission to hospital.
The aim of this study is to explore patients’ experiences and perceptions of the management and recovery from chest injuries, when they don't require admission to the hospital. This work is important, as clinicians caring for patients with chest injuries need to know if patients' experiences are positive or not.In order to gather this information, we will ask 15 patients to participate in an interview. The patients will be approached to consider taking part in the interview, when they are in A&E. If they agree, they will be contacted four weeks later to arrange a suitable date / time for the interview. The interview will then be conducted over the telephone or online, using TEAMS and will last up to one hour. Once completed, the interview will be transcribed and analysed. The patient will not be required to do any further work for the study. The whole study will last approximately six months.
