Research summary
Ovarian cancer is the second commonest gynaecological malignancy in the developed world, with around 7,100 new cases being diagnosed yearly in the UK. Although it has fallen behind endometrial cancer in terms of incidence, ovarian cancer still accounts for the highest gynaecological cancer mortality burden, standing at circa 4,300 women per year. This long-term study plans to shed more light on the mechanisms underlying the development, spread and recurrence of ovarian cancers as well as in the categorisation of both patients and cancer subtypes, with a view to developing more effective treatment regimes.
