  • Data collection arrangements

Personal information including name and contact details of parent/s, date of birth, due date, weight, sex, and name of baby. This data will be obtained from parents at the Maternity Unit at RLI in the days following the birth of their child and from parents during their regular visits to the local Surgeries. Initially this information will be recorded on cards, which will be transferred afterwards in the RCD-Database. This information will then be made available to appropriate personnel conducting research with infants.

  • Research programme

Any researcher working in the area of child development in the Department of Psychology at Lancaster University will be supported by the RCD-Database. The group focuses on research in development and learning from infancy to childhood. The research methods combine behavioural observation and experimentation, computational modelling, and neurophysiological techniques, including EEG/ERP and NIRS. The psychological phenomena addressed are diverse, covering perception, memory, cognition, social and emotional development, and addressing normal and atypical behaviour. The current members of the Psychology Department interested in infant and child development research are: Gavin Bremner, Dina Lew, Gert Westermann, Elena Geangu, Eugenio Parise, Vincent Reid, Melissa Allen, Callum Hartley, Charlie Lewis, Katie Alcock, Kate Cain, Robert Davies, Padraic Monaghan, John Towse, and Peter Walker. The combination of methods, expertise and testing of a range of populations mean that this research group provides a broad yet detailed perspective on multiple aspects of human development. The activity is supported by internal and external funding.
