Research summary
The study will evaluate a series of workplace parenting workshops which will be run across one large mental health trust. Targeted support for parents has been found to improve outcomes for both parent and child. Workplace parenting workshops are associated with improved parental confidence, increased positive parenting practice and reduced stress. Within mental health services a sizeable proportion of employees are expected to be parents. The current study will evaluate the effect of these group-based workplace parenting programme on positive parenting, child behaviour, stress and wellbeing.
A second aim of the workshops is to increase participants’ willingness to support the parenting of service users who have children. Therefore, the evaluation will also investigate whether staff report changes in confidence, skills, and motivation to support ‘patient as parent’.
