Research summary
COPD is primarily caused by cigarette smoking beyond environmental factors. This research study is being conducted over 3 years in patients who have mild to moderate COPD to show how COPD progression can be slowed down by switching from smoking cigarettes to a tobacco heating system (THS). For those who would otherwise continue smoking cigarettes, switching from cigarettes to less harmful products such as THS, is an alternative approach to potentially reduce the harm caused by cigarettes.
