• Research summary

  Blinded randomised controlled cross over trial of the cardiovascular effects of supplemental inspired oxygen during haemodialysis. 24 stable haemodialysis patients will be enrolled, and randomised to receive 2 weeks of supplemental oxygen during haemodialysis, or to 2 weeks of conventional haemodialysis. The patients will then cross over to receive the other therapy, thereby acting as their own controls. The main outcomes are the occurrence and severity of acute dialysis-induced myocardial stunning, as measured by regional wall motion abnormalities on echocardiography, and haemodynamic stability during haemodialysis measured non-invasively.
