Data collection arrangements
The data of patients undergoing treatment for oesophago-gastric cancer in the host institutions and approved collaborators will be collected by dedicated members of the care team and stored in accordance with Trust and national data requirements. This will be used for audit purposes and locally approved studies within the dedicated research team. IT and data governance principles will be strictly adhered to.
Research programme
The most important uses of the data are to support the unit's audit requirements including a compulsory national data audit. Locally approved studies by accredited members of the research team will also be performed acknowledging that the data being used is that of patients already undergoing treatment for oesophago-gastric cancer and will not in any way affect that individual's management. Many of the clinical studies performed using our data collected over the last 16 years have contributed to positive impacts on patient care for patients subsequently being treated in the department.
