  • Research summary

This study aims to evaluate the outcomes of a novel foot plating system which allows placement of a compression screw through the plate, for the treatment of hallux rigidus (arthritis of the big toe) or severe hallux valgus (bunion). The success of this novel system will be assessed using patient reported outcome measures, rate of fusion of the bone, and gait analysis.
Few studies have objectively assessed the effects of forefoot deformity and the subsequent effects of surgery. This study aims to use both subjective (patient reported outcome measures) and objective (fusion rate and gait analysis) markers to accurately assess the results of a modern compression plating system. This will provide new, useful information for patient clinical benefit, the surgeon and also industry.
