Data collection arrangements
The ORCHARD-EPR research database will store data collected in the course of routine daily care of patients recorded by doctors and nurses and other healthcare staff in the OUHFT/RBHFT electronic patient records (EPR) and brain scan images. Data will also be stored from relevant OUHFT-approved audits including previous approved audits conducted 2010-2015 before the EPR was fully established in which data were collected from the paper notes and entered into an electronic spreadsheet. Data will included from patients aged 65 years and above and younger patients seen in the OUHFT/RBHFT memory/cognitive disorders clinics, specialist vascular services or with multimorbidity. The database includes information on thinking and memory problems, frailty and rates of death and readmission to hospital.
Research programme
The research database would be used to examine how often patients in the hospital have age-related problems including thinking and memory problems, frailty and a combination of many different medical issues. The databaase will also allow studies of how these age-related problems are related to complications including falls, and pressure sores. The database will also allow researchers to understand why some patients spend a long time in hospital, and need extra care, and why some are readmitted to hospital soon after going home. The database will also allow studies of the risk of developing dementia in the future.
