Research summary
Pain is a common side effect during colonoscopy which can be reduced through the use of analgesics. There are many analgesics available including Entonox©, commonly known as ??gas and air??. Many studies have shown Entonox© is an effective analgesic during colonoscopy. Entonox© can be given continuously or as required but the advantages and disadvantages of these different modes of administration have not been examined. This study will randomise patients undergoing a screening colonoscopy to receive Entonox© either continuously or as required. Patients will be asked to rate their level of pain during colonoscopy and their recollection of pain afterwards
