Research summary
A single flow miniaturised device has already been developed by the University of Hull to keep whole pieces of tissue, including different types of tumours, viable and functional for several days. In this feasibility study we wish to optimise a miniaturised device that will maintain the viability and clinical features of tissue from patients with suspected or confirmed inflammatory bowel disease using a dual flow system. Separate nutrient flow systems will be applied to the lumen and stroma of the tissue, ensuring that the two flow systems do not mix, thereby mimicking the conditions of the gut.
