Research summary
Psychopathy is a mental disorder associated with antisocial, callous traits and is heavily associated with crime. There are extensive policies regarding mental disorders and how they are handled within the criminal justice system. However, it is not clear if these policies are in line with the opinions of mental health professionals. There is a lack of empirical research investigating their opinions and the research being proposed here is aiming to fill that gap in the literature. The particular mental disorder being focused on in this research is psychopathy as there is a large debate in the literature regarding criminal responsibility and treatment of psychopaths. For this study organisations that employ psychologists and psychiatrists will be contacted to see if they are willing for their staff and members to take part in the research. If so an online questionnaire, using Bristol Online Survey, will be sent to the organisations and they will be requested to distribute the questionnaire to the relevant staff members.
