  • Research summary

This project will focus on digital health technologies used by nurses (and their experiences) to deliver/ manage patient care in General Practice settings and the perceptions of people receiving/monitoring care using digital health technologies.

This project will explore the experiences and perspectives of nurses (based in general practice) in using digital technology to deliver care for people with long term conditions. the project will also explore the experiences and perspectives of people living with long terms conditions receiving care delivered via digital technology by nurses in general practice.

The project will involve 1). a rapid scoping review of existing literature to map what digital technologies have been reported in general practice, what long term conditions they are used for, what impacts have been reported and what gaps exist in the evidence base. 2). a mixed methods study to understand and explore the experiences and perspectives of nurses (in General Practice) using digital technology to deliver care for people with long term conditions (surveys and qualitative interviews/ focus groups). The experiences and perspectives of people with long term conditions receiving care from nurses (based in General Practice) for their condition will also be explored (qualitative interviews).
Nurses and people living with long term conditions (PLwLTC) will be recruited from GP Practices based within NHS Grampian board area.

The project aims to identify strengths and limitations of existing digital technology, barriers and facilitators to their use, and training needs for nurses, in order to provide recommendations for future service development. Outcomes of this study will be fed back to participants, the wider clinical and research community and other practice nurses.
