Research summary
This study will assess effectiveness of the use of a newly devised intervention in helping participants who have lost weight to maintain their weight loss. The study will be conducted to compare the effectiveness of the newly developed intervention in one group of participants against a control group. The study will be carried out in a single centre and participants will be randomly selected to one of two groups. One group will receive the new intervention and the other group will receive the less intensive approach of a quarterly newsletter. An internal pilot study will be conducted to include the first 50 participants to test the acceptability and feasibility of the trial procedures (e.g. recruitment, measurement, allocation and retention procedures) before proceeding with the full trial.
A total of 288 participants will be recruited, after weight loss, with randomisation of 144 participants to receive the new intervention and 144 to receive the quarterly newsletter. Measurements of weight, assessment of physical activity and psychological and economic assessments will be carried out at study entry, 6 months and 12 months.REC name
