The Norwich Research Park Biorepository is a department within Research and Development at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUHFT). The Biorepository occupies a purpose-built temperature controlled facility on the Norwich Research Park (NRP). Frozen biorepository samples are kept in -80C freezers with temperature system (T-Scan), providing 24 hour monitoring. The unit also houses NNUH histopathology archive, including the Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded block diagnostic archives. Participants who are eligible will be provided with the participant information sheet (PIS) by trained staff. The PIS introduces the Biorepository and its management of samples and data, and what the samples may be used for after donation. They will be encouraged to ask questions and if happy to donate, will be requested to include their initials to show agreement and sign the consent form providing authorisation to use the samples (tissue or other biological sample) and associated data. Samples and data once collected are stored securely in accordance with the human tissue act 2004, the General data protection regulation 2018 and Data Protection act 2018 UK.

  • Research programme

The Biorepository serves the local community of researchers and academics across the Norwich Research Park institutes, and the wider research community in the UK and abroad. The variety of samples collected from patients (adults and children) and healthy volunteers (adults) supports many current and developing areas in cancer, microbiome & gut health, orthopaedic, paediatric, respiratory, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and microbiology.
