Research summary
Following a recent appraisal of attendance at the Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) clinic within the local NHS Grampian Rheumatology out-patient department, it was found almost half of patients who had attended clinic were consequently lost to follow up. There is natural concern over the health status of these non-attending individuals. A questionnaire, which incorporated validated measures of AS status, was designed to determine reasons for non attendance and to establish current health status of these individuals. In addition, a comparison with those patients still attending clinic was performed in order to evaluate whether those attending have superior health outcomes to those who do not.
