Research summary
Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NA-AION) is the most common acute optic neuropathy in the middle-aged and elderly population. It can also occur in children and young adults. NA-AION leads to irreversible vision loss, and there is currently no effective treatment. The purpose of the study is to use diagnostic tools and new diagnostic methods, such as Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) to shed light on risk factors for the development of NA-AION. OCTA is a development on standard OCT which is routinely used in Eye Clinics.
We will perform two sub-studies:
1) Anatomical risk factors in the optic nerve head.
2) Comorbidities and vascular characteristics of the optic nerve.REC name
