Research summary
We are going to investigate the efficacy of neuromuscular electrical stimulation using an electrical device which evokes lower leg muscle contractions and movement via foot stimulation, to enhance blood circulation in patients with intermittent claudication. We will use a standard treadmill test to measure pain free walking distance and absolute claudication distance. Blood circulation to the lower limb will be measured by ultrasound scan examination and subjective measures will be assessed by standard symptom related and quality of life questionnaires.
