Research summary
In patients with very poor arterial blood flow (patients with critical limb ischaemia) which cannot be corrected with surgery, we want to investigate the efficacy of a neuromuscular electrical stimulation device which evokes lower leg muscle contractions and movement via foot stimulation. We would like to assess if the use of this device can improve pain and prevent amputation. Blood circulation to the lower limb will be measured by ultrasound scan examination and subjective measures will be assessed by standard symptom related and quality of life questionnaires.
