Data collection arrangements
Samples will be any tissue surplus to diagnostic requirements along with an additional blood sample. Non-invasive samples such as urine or saliva may also be collected. Basic demographic data such as height, weight, gender, health status, etc will also be collected along with permission to access medical notes if needed.
Research programme
The Newcastle Biobank is predominantly supporting research studies within Newcastle University and Newcastle upon Tyne HNS Foundation Trust. The aim of the Biobank will be to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of illnesses such as heart disease, lung disease, endocrine disorders, and cancer. Additionally, the Newcastle Biobank allows access to collected samples to researchers across the UK and elsewhere who wish to research conditions that the Biobank has an interest in and where donors have provided suitable consent.
