Research summary
Neutron scattering studies are envisaged on: (i) human tissues from anonymised patients, to identify biomarkers of disease (cancer) and better understand normal-to-malignant transition; (ii) human bones - both subject to metastasis (due to cancer) and subject to heating (burned under aerobic or anaerobic conditions).
The samples will be available from collections at: Portugal (University of Coimbra and Oncology Institutes); Greece (Weiner lab at Athens) and Texas/USA (University of Texas at Rio Grande).
Samples will be either shipped from abroad or brought with the researchers to ISIS. They will be stored securely at ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, while being studied.
After measurements on the beamline, the samples will be removed and sent back to the University of Coimbra (Portugal).REC name
