The Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) Spectrum Disorders and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Tissue Bank is a research tissue bank designed to provide tissue samples, such as blood, urine, spinal fluid, and tissue biopsy, and data as a resources to study NMO, MS and other neurodegenerative diseases compared to healthy individuals. This Tissue Bank is overseen by the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr Jacqueline Palace.

Informed consent will be obtained by appropriately trained members of staff who will explain all aspects of involvement in the tissue bank, including any risks and how their samples will be stored and handled. The data contained in the tissue bank will be stored on secure NHS trust servers which can only be accessed on password protected computers by members of staff who have been granted access by the PI. Data requests will be reviewed by the PI and if approved all data will be anonymised by an appropriately delegated member of staff before being granted to the requesting researcher.

Samples will be immediately anonymised and stored within allocated research space, with restricted access, at the Weatherall Institute for Molecular Medicine. Unless a suitable replacement can be identified and approved, all samples will be destroyed upon the PI’s retirement.
