Research summary
This is a multi-centre, observational registry study that will follow patients for a total of 5 years from the date of their first liver ablation procedure using the NeuWave Microwave Ablation System. As this is an observational study, taking part in the study does not change the care patients receive, their treatment or follow-up.
Microwave ablation is a treatment that uses image guidance to place a needle through the skin into a liver tumor. Microwaves are created from the needle to create a small region of heat. The heat destroys the liver cancer cells. Microwave ablation is an effective treatment option for patients who might have difficulty with surgery or those whose tumours are less than 40 mm in diameter.
It is hoped that at least 1,500 patients throughout the world who underwent, or are undergoing, microwave ablation of one or more soft tissue liver lesions using the NeuWave Microwave Ablation System will be recruited to the registry study. The data gathered will be analysed and used to produce guidance for doctors performing ablation procedures in patients with various liver conditions and liver lesion types.
