Research summary
Intermittent Exotropia is a common kind of squint that affects children where one eye drifts out from time to time particularly on distance viewing or in bright light. There are currently no widely accepted guidelines on how to treat the condition and consequently many children are kept under observation for many months or even years. In order to be able to describe and monitor control in this type of skint scoring systems have been developed. The score being tested in this piece of work is called the Newcastle Control Score (NCS). The study is going to take place in the RVI Newcastle. The aim of the work is investigate variations in the NCS from minute to minute and to assess if al doctors apply the test in the same way and therefore get the same results. The answer to those questions will help doctors to understand how big a change in the score needs to be before it represents a real change in control of the squint.
