Data collection arrangements
NEIAA is a national programme collecting information on the care of people with arthritis in the NHS. We are seeking to create a pseudonymous dataset for research from NEIAA. The dataset will include no personal or sensitive information.
The data will include a unique identifier, age, gender, deprivation level (using the index of multiple deprivation rank), work status (employed / unemployed) and comorbidities. Information on delays in referral to hospital and subsequent delays in treatment. Information on disease severity (using numeric scores) and treatment responses will be collected out to 12 months after diagnosis. No free text fields are collected.
Dates of events that are recorded in NEIAA will be changed in the research dataset to prevent any researcher from being able to re-identify an individual.
No additional data will be collected for the research database beyond what is already collected for NEIAA.
Research programme
The ability to create a research database from NEIAA will provide wide opportunities to the research community in the following areas including but not limited to: 1. Health services research (how can we improve quality of care and reduce variation in the NHS) 2. Predictors of early treatment outcomes in inflammatory arthritis (how different treatment strategies work in the real world) 3. What is the impact of inflammatory arthritis (in terms of quality of life, economic impact and NHS impact).
