Data collection arrangements
NHS Trusts will provide presentation, clinical, biochemical/haematological, and imaging patient data to the database, which will be governed by NHSX and BSTI.\n\nData Collection Centres enter data points into a spreadsheet which is uploaded to the NCCID web portal on a regular basis. In addition the associated imaging patient data will be sent to a dedicated NCCID Node on the Image Exchange Portal. The images and data are de-identified at the point of transfer to a centralised cloud-based warehouse provided by NHSX.\n\nA key to the patient identifiable information will be retained, so that linkage to other health data is possible, if needed to undertake a specific research project linked to Covid-19. Such requests will be reviewed by the NCCID data access committee, to ensure they are an appropriate and justified use.
Research programme
NCCID aims to establish a national research database for all UK NHS Trusts to provide chest X-ray and CT images and associated clinical data for patients suspected of Covid-19 infection.\n\nThe expectation is that through the collection and integration of large amounts of image and clinical data NCCID will accelerate the development and implementation of statistical modelling and machine learning enhanced solutions which improve the diagnosis of, and provide a prognostic tool for, clinical use in the assessment of patients presenting to Emergency Departments with suspected Covid 19 disease.
