Research summary
This study will compare any differences in lung OE-MRI protocols and results in healthy volunteers, due to different scanning platforms (Philips, Siemens and GE) and different strengths of scanners (1.5T and 3T). Participants will be required to have oxygen-enhanced MRI (OE-MRI) scans at sites in Manchester (2), Liverpool (2), York and Sheffield. Eight participants will have 6 OE-MRI scans. Each scan will take approximately 1 hour of which 15-20 mins will be breathing 100% oxygen via a face mask. University scanning sites have been selected as their MR scanners are generally more accessible for research scanning protocols compared to Radiology Departments.
Development of OE-MRI in these areas is important, as it could progress the technique to one that could be used in large scale multi-centre trials, and potentially in diagnostic settings with directly comparable results
