Research summary
The research question driving this study is as follows: What is it like for a mother with an eating disorder to engage in feeding behaviours with her child? For the purpose of this study, the term ‘feeding behaviours’ refers to the processes of meal planing, shopping for food, food preparation, cooking, meal times and/or spoon feeding. Using a qualitative interpretative phenomenological analysis, this research aims to gain access into an eating disordered mother’s experience of the feeding practices she engages in with her child/children. The study will involve interviewing 6-8 mothers, for approximately 1 hour by the researcher, who is a trainee counseling psychologist at City University London. Interviews would be digitally recorded, and transcribed. Transcribed interviews would be analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis to make sense of the individual’s subjective accounts. \n \n
