Research summary
In up to 80% of neonates treated with antibiotics for infection, blood cultures fail to grow a pathogen. This study aims to investigate excess blood samples taken from neonates hospitalized at St George’s Hospital with molecular diagnostic methods to describe bacteria most commonly causing sepsis in neonates. We will be collecting excess EDTA blood samples from the haematology department of neonates with positive and negative blood cultures.
