Research summary
The study will investigate inherited disorders termed ciliopathies that give rise to multi system disorders in childhood and adolescence. Typically patients with ciliopathies develop cystic kidney disease which results in renal failure during the first 3 decades of life. In this study we will study kidney cells isolated from the urine of patients with cilipathies in order to understand these diseases more fully. Cells grown from urine will be cultured, examined under a microscope and treated with drugs to test mechanisms of disease and potential therapies for these diseases.
