Research summary
This study aims to observe the quality of life improvement with MK-051 urinary stent over 'double J' (JJ) stent and longevity of the MK-051 for over 2 years in 100 patients. We will be using validated questionnaires to assess the patient’s symptoms and quality of life with the JJ in place and after the MK-051 is inserted.
Periodic imaging will be done throughout the study to determine the function of MK-051. At any point after insertion of MK-051 if there are failures or side effects, standard care will take over. This means JJ will be re-inserted.
The outcome of this study will determine the position of MK-051 in the management of patients needing long-term relief of ureteric obstruction.
