  • Research summary

Previous research has shown that mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a warning sign for developing dementia. The majority of those living with MCI have not been diagnosed. This trial is exploring if we can detect markers of MCI using a mobile app called Mindset.
To explore this we plan to study two groups: participants who have MCI on standard neuropsychological tests and participants with no cognitive impairment.
Participants will undertake a standard battery of paper based neuropsychological tests (NPTs) and assessment at a clinical research unit. Their score on the Clinical Dementia Rating will establish whether they are put into the ‘healthy control group’ or the ‘MCI group’. They will also be asked to use the Mindset app which takes about 5 minutes and runs through some simple questions and tasks. We will then compare the results from the app to the results of the NPTs assessment and see if they correlate. Participant’s feedback on the app and any adverse events (our data shows this is a very low risk) will also be collected so that we can ensure that the app is both safe and usable for our target population.
