Research summary
The rise of overweight and obesity rates over the last decades is steadily increasing (Ng et al., 2014), making it unbearable for national health trusts in the western world. Being overweight or obese is associated with chronic health conditions and an increased chance of mortality (Koepelman, 2007; Whitlock et al., 2009). Despite that many individuals are able to lose weight (Jolly et al., 2011), research shows that most will regain it (Wing & Phelan, 2005). Therefore, the necessity for interventions that target weight loss and maintenance are of primary importance. The aim of the proposed research is to investigate the personality traits and eating behaviours projected during different milestones (i.e. baseline, 3, 6 and 9 months) of (un)successful weight loss and maintenance. This will enable the identification and utilisation of personality and eating types in future interventions that are likely to predict greater success in both weight loss and maintenance.
