  • Research summary

Volatile organic compounds are microscopic compounds which are present within human body fluids (including gastric content, blood and urine) as well as human breath. Previous studies have shown that levels of these compounds may be altered in patients with gastro-oesophageal cancer and colorectal cancer. This study will aim to further study the presence of these compounds within the gastric juice, blood and tissues of patients with gastrointestinal cancer to further our understanding of how these compounds are formed and whether they could be used in the future by clinicians to assist in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancer.
