Research summary
The aim of this study is to measure the psychological well-being of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) in West-Central Scotland. After ethics permission has been granted, patient information sheets (PIS), consent forms, and a validated questionnaire called the General Well-Being Index (GWBI) together with self-addressed stamped envelopes, will be handed out by the researcher to CHF patients who attend nurse-lead heart failure clinics as hospitals across the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde boards (NHSGGC). The answered questionnaires and signed consent forms will then be returned to the research via the envelopes that were given out at the same time as the PIS, consent forms, and GWBI. The results gathered will be categorised into ordinal scale data and data entry will be coded into IBM’s Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) ver.19 to examine the patients’ psychological state in terms of both positive and negative effects, any association that can be seen between their psychological well-being and their symptoms, and association between their psychological well-being and their family or social support network.
