  • Research summary

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a new multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach in facilitating team functioning within the Scott Clinic, a medium secure unit (MSU) in the North West of England. Following an internal review, the MDT teams have been restructured and adapted at the Scott Clinic between September 2012 and March 2013. Changes include a more structured approach, with the expectation that all MDT members have an equal contribution to make; a location accessible to all staff and service users; and risk formulation as an essential element in the team decision making process. This study will investigate medium-term changes and developments within the multi-disciplinary teams at the Scott Clinic in relation to team climate and decision making process, by looking at team climate before and after the change (measured by Team Climate Questionnaires), observing MDT meetings and conducting interviews with staff and service users.
